Refined and Reimagined
As designers, our job is to see a space’s potential, no matter how outdated it may be! We are trained to look past any popcorn ceiling, cramped floorplan, or questionable tile choice and imagine what could be instead of what is.
Where others might see dark rooms, awkward layouts, and finishes stuck in another decade, we see opportunity. Better flow, smarter function, layered lighting, and thoughtful details that completely transform how a home looks and lives.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of reimagining spaces that felt plain, dated, or simply not aligned with our clients’ lifestyles. From cosmetic refreshes to full-scale renovations, each project started with possibility and ended with something beautiful, functional, and deeply personal.
In this month’s blog, we’re sharing 10 of our favorite before-and-afters to show just how powerful good design can be. Because sometimes all it takes is vision, creativity, and a little courage to turn “what were they thinking?” into “how is this the same space?”
The living room from our South Lane project had great bones but was just missing that style element and wow-factor that the homeowners were looking for. Cue the statement ceiling! The pop of black paired with the statement fireplace completely transformed this space.
This before and after is a great example of how you can keep a current layout (great if you don’t want to move plumbing or gas lines) while still achieving a totally different look! Two toned cabinetry creates a beautiful yin and yang balance in the space, and the accessories and styling give the design a more contemporary feel.
The original living space from our Fairfax home was plain and a little dark, but which a fresh, bold paint job and some modern furnishings, the new design is a breath of fresh air and definitely a conversation starter!
A notable element of this transformation was the uniquely shaped alcove that sits offset of the kitchen. Our design team was inspired by the architecture of the space and opted for custom bench seating and a statement light fixture to create an upscale and elegant breakfast nook!
Impactful design does not always have to mean “big” changes! This bedroom refresh features some of the homeowner’s already owned furniture pieces with the addition of statement wallpaper, a blue ceiling, and some brand-new accessories and décor that pull it all together.
The original sitting room in this home was bland at best, and the owners were looking to revamp the space with some new décor, furniture, and an awe-inspiring focal point. The new space is timeless and elegant with some surprising furniture combinations that keep the design fresh and interesting!
When you have a nice view, why not capitalize on it?? This before and after features revamped windows that better show this home’s fantastic view. In addition, trim and paint were used to brighten the space and emphasize the home’s natural light.
Dining room but elevated. A custom bench perfectly hugs the windows in this space, creating a bespoke seating element that is a seamless complement to the new, more modern, light fixture and furnishings.
Why fit in when you can stand out? We’re pretty sure that’s what this dining room transformation would say if it could talk! The original space had a lot of positive elements but again lacked that wow-factor. The new design is monochromatic with a statement tile ceiling, and a massive (and gorgeous) statement chandelier.
The original basement in our Fairfax home was a little dated featuring mis-matched furniture and poor lighting. The new space is completely unrecognizable utilizing custom cabinetry that creates the perfect frame around the large move-style projection screen. In addition, the velvet blue sectional and movie poster artwork gives us that quintessential theater vibe.
