Game Day Design

Football season isn’t just about the score; it’s about the experience! Whether you’re hosting a full crowd of friends or settling in for a solo watch party, the space you gather in plays a huge role in how the day feels. From cozy living rooms transformed into fan zones to purpose-built media dens that rival sports bars, the right interior design can set the stage for every kickoff, buzzer-beater, or last-minute goal.

In this month’s blog we are diving into what makes up the perfect game day space, whether you’re hosting the whole crew or keeping it low-key, here’s how to create a room that’s worthy of the big leagues.

SEATING: The Starting Lineup

Every great game day begins with comfortable seating. And contrary to popular belief, this kind of seating can actually be chic AND comfortable. A sectional is a fan favorite because it maximizes lounging space and makes room for a crowd. But don’t forget extras like poufs, floor cushions, or even folding chairs for overflow seating. The trick is arranging everything, so no one is stuck at a bad angle or blocked view. After all, every seat should feel like front row.

Project: Fox Trail

In addition to a large sectional, our Fox Trail home also features different seating areas designed throughout the entertainment space. Layering a variety of seating areas makes for the perfect gameday as you can have guests posted up on the couch, seated at the bar for drinks and snacks, or sitting at one of the high tops for casual conversation or perhaps to play a quick game of cards during half-time!

THE SCREEN: Star of the Show

Let’s be real, the screen is the MVP here. Go big if you can, but what matters most is placement. Mount it at eye level to keep things comfortable and reduce glare by considering your window and lighting setup. To help it blend better into your space, frame your TV with shelving, a media console, or even a gallery wall so it feels like part of the design instead of just a black box on the wall.

Project: Fairfax

This basement design features a projection screen which is perfect for gamedays, movies, or just a casual, cozy night in! We love how the expansive screen gives “movie theater vibes” and allows for easy viewing from anywhere in the room.

SOUND: Bring the Stadium Home

Nothing kills game-day energy faster than tinny sound. A sleek soundbar or a full surround system brings every call, cheer, and buzzer-beater to life. If your space is open and echo-prone, layer in rugs, curtains, or even decorative acoustic panels to make the sound crisp and full.

SNACKS + DRINKS: The Sideline Essential

If the kitchen is too far, you’ll spend half the game missing the good plays. That’s where a snack and drink zone comes in clutch. We love spaces that incorporate a bar into their entertainment spaces for a chic, and functional addition. But if you’re tight on space, a bar cart, console table, or mini fridge keeps everything within reach; chips, dips, and chilled drinks ready for halftime.

Project: Fox Trail

While bar carts and mini fridges are great space-saving solutions, this shows how a full home bar can serve as the heart of an entertainment space. This bar design embodies  the idea of blending chic design with game-day practicality. Not to mention, pairing the bar with the pool table brings in a secondary layer of entertainment. Guests can grab a drink, play a game between quarters, or hang out in the same zone without splintering off into different parts of the house.

TEAM SPIRIT: (Without the Overload)

We love a good jersey wall, but balance is key. Football season is only part of the year after all, and you want your space to be stylish year-round! We recommend choosing a few high-impact pieces, like framed memorabilia, throw pillows in team colors, or a vintage pennant, rather than covering every inch with logos. A bold accent wall in team colors can also set the tone without going overboard. It’s about celebrating your team while still keeping the room stylish enough for everyday use.

Project: Elk View

This gameday retreat was created for a former NFL player to highlight some of his favorite memorabilia. The custom frames, built-ins, and personalized sign add to the chic vibe without overwhelming the space.

LIGHTING: Set the Vibe

Lighting can completely shift the mood of a room. For game day, you want cozy but not cave-like. Dimmable ceiling lights or smart bulbs let you set the perfect brightness, while table lamps or sconces keep things warm. Skip harsh overhead glare, you want drama on the screen, not in your lighting.

COMFORT + EXTRAS: The Finishing Touch

The best spaces are the ones you never want to leave. Stock the room with soft throws, comfy pillows, and plenty of side tables so guests aren’t juggling drinks on their laps. Ottomans pull double duty for kicking back or acting as extra seating when the room fills up. Little details make the whole experience feel more relaxed.

Cozy pillows, plushy throws, and a variety of movable coffee tables make this seating area a comfortable and functional haven for guests!
